JDRF has built a nationwide network of passionate advocates who are dedicated to finding a cure for type 1 diabetes.  Our community is full of children, young adults AND adults with type 1, and their families and loved ones, who are all working together to take us from Type One to Type None.

Time Magazine has called JDRF “one of the nation’s most forceful disease Advocacy groups.”  When it comes to fighting type 1 diabetes, JDRF’s strength lies in our numbers and within the ability of our advocates to work together to build bonds – bonds both with one another, as well as with our Members of Congress and their staff members.

These relationships strengthen our Advocacy community, provide support for those who are living with type 1 diabetes, and help deliver our most pressing message – the need for a cure – faster, and more effectively.

Additionally, our top legislative priority is a fully-funded renewal of the Special Diabetes Program (SDP)  before Congress adjourns for the year.  Since its inception in 1997, the SDP has provided more than $2 billion through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for type 1 diabetes research, resulting in treatments and management used every day to help people live better lives with type 1.  We need our advocates to help us continue to let key lawmakers know the importance of continued, uninterrupted funding for this critical research program.

JDRF advocates also help support a number of other important type 1 issues that are critical to our search for a cure, such as:

As a JDRF advocate, your personal story takes on added impact when you join forces with thousands, and tens and hundreds of thousands, of other advocates from all across the country.  If you are not already registered as a JDRF advocate, you can become one right here on the site.  Just a few minutes of your time when the JDRF Advocacy Team calls upon you will help us make a difference in this crucial effort.  Need some extra motivation? – view some videos and photos from our Advocacy activities.  Want to share your own story? – then go over to the ‘Who’s Your #1’ site and let us know what, and whom, motivates you.

Once you’ve registered as an advocate, you can help by participating in other important JDRF Advocacy programs.  You can read about many of our programs, and the work that we do, on our Advocacy blog, Type One Nation.  If you like what you read, take the time to share a piece and comment in the comments section.

Then find, friend and follow us on your favorite social media community, sharing the content you like with your own networks – JDRF Advocacy is on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Pinterest.  Find someplace where we haven’t gone yet? – please let us know!  There are never enough ways that you can help us all to be better JDRF advocates.

Still need one more reason to Join Us?  Hear what Camille Nash, our National Volunteer Chair of JDRF Advocacy has to say about why we do it.

Thank you for all that you do, and we look forward to working with you soon.
