JDRF has built a nationwide network of passionate advocates who are dedicated to finding a cure for type 1 diabetes. Our community is full of children, young adults AND adults with type 1, and their families and loved ones, who are all working together to take us from Type One to Type None.
Time Magazine has called JDRF “one of the nation’s most forceful disease Advocacy groups.” When it comes to fighting type 1 diabetes, JDRF’s strength lies in our numbers and within the ability of our advocates to work together to build bonds – bonds both with one another, as well as with our Members of Congress and their staff members.
These relationships strengthen our Advocacy community, provide support for those who are living with type 1 diabetes, and help deliver our most pressing message – the need for a cure – faster, and more effectively.
Additionally, our top legislative priority is a fully-funded renewal of the Special Diabetes Program (SDP) before Congress adjourns for the year. Since its inception in 1997, the SDP has provided more than $2 billion through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for type 1 diabetes research, resulting in treatments and management used every day to help people live better lives with type 1. We need our advocates to help us continue to let key lawmakers know the importance of continued, uninterrupted funding for this critical research program.
JDRF advocates also help support a number of other important type 1 issues that are critical to our search for a cure, such as:
